Thailand won their first match of the competition as they beat United Arab Emirates by seven wickets in the play-off semi-finals. Thailand had beaten UAE twice in the Asian Qualifier held in Bangkok last year and it was important to re-impose their pre-eminence over local rivals after a disappointing week. Thailand produced a solid team performance as Chanida Sutthiruang bowled a fine spell with the new ball and the spinners gave nothing. They were electric in the field and claimed three run outs to dismiss UAE for just 50. The chase was slow but sure as the Thai girls reached their target without hitting a single boundary, Nannapat Koncharoenkai and Sornnarin Tippoch seeing them home with 4.3 overs to spare. Thailand will now face Uganda in the play-off for fifth place.
