As had happened in the previous edition of the ICC Women's World T20 Qualifier which was held in Bangkok in 2015, Bangladesh and Ireland had proved to be the two best teams by winning three group matches and then confirming their places in the main World T20 competition by winning their semi-finals. In 2015 Ireland had surprised Bangladesh by beating them by two wickets from the last ball to be crowned champions. The same two teams had reached the final again but this time the result was reversed as Bangladesh were able to defend a total of 122 for 9 to defeat Ireland by 25 runs. Ayasha Rehman made 46 but Lucy O'Reilly took 4 for 28 to keep Ireland in the hunt. Bangladesh were victorious thanks to the fast bowling prowess of Panna Ghosh who took the best figures of the tournament with 5 for 16 as Ireland were bowled out for 97. Bangladesh could celebrate another tournament victory but Ireland were not down-hearted as they will be joining them in the Caribbean in November.
