United Arab Emirates Women are playing in their first ICC global qualifying event but had looked a strong side in beating Netherlands by six wickets on the opening day. UAE knew that if they could win again today they would be certain of a place in the semi-finals, but Papua New Guinea have more experience at this level, having competed in previous ICC Qualifiers at both 20 and 50-over cricket. UAE's openers took the score to 28 but a series of run outs, notably to player of the match against Netherlands Nisha Ali, put paid to hopes of a big score. A position of 45 for 7 looked terminal but Subha Srinivasan helped her team to complete their 20 overs and post a score of 83. PNG were coasting to victory at 50 for 2 but they only just managed to scramble over the line as Srinivasan took 3 for 13. PNG kept their hopes of a place in the semi-finals alive as they won an exciting match by two wickets with just one ball to spare.
