We are clearly living in historic times. On Monday it was a historic day as Bangladesh's women beat Pakistan; Wednesday was even more historic for Bangadesh as India suffered their first ever defeat in the Women's Asia Cup; a double dose of history followed on Saturday as Thailand beat a full member country for the first time and Bangladesh reached their first ever Women's Asia Cup final. It must now be a historic week for women's cricket in Asia as Bangladesh have done it again and beaten India iin the final by three wickets from the last ball despite the best efforts of captain Harmanpreet Singh and leg-spinner Poonam Yadav. Bangladesh are the second winnets of the Asia Cup and It brought back memories of India's men's team ending West Indies' unbeaten World Cup record in 1983 (35 years ago today in fact) and then beating them again in the final at Lord's. Historic is an overused word but the six time winners of the Asia Cup have been dethroned by a team outside the ICC Women's Championship; the World Cup finalists have been beaten by a team who did not even qualify. These are exciting times for Asian women's cricket as Bangladesh, Thailand and UAE travel to Netherlands for the ICC Women's World T20 Qualifier. Please note: more cricket for these teams will bring many more historic days in women's cricket in the future.....
