History was made at the ACC Women's Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur as Thailand defeated a full-member country for the first time as they beat Sri Lanka by four wickets from the last ball of a thrilling encounter. The woman of the hour was Wongpaka Liengprasert who took five wickets for 12 runs with her off-spin to bowl out Sri Lanka for 104 in exactly 20 overs. Thailand then looked comfortable with the bat as Nattakan Chantam and Naruemol Chaiwai shared an opening stand of 43, but boundaries dried up in the second half of the innings. Wongpaka was not to be denied as she made 13 from just nine balls and kept her nerve as wickets were falling towards the end. One run was needed from the last ball of the match and of course it was wonder woman Wongpaka who made sure the winning single was scampered. Thailand had enjoyed the best victory in their history and the team will head to Netherlands for the ICC Women's T20 Qualifier in high spirits. A few more days like this and the Thai girls will be heading to West Indies for the main global event in November.
